First Frost

On the Hunter’s Moon, little sleep was had and the 10 and 1/2 month old huskies jumped into action ninety minutes before their usual wake up.
Our first frost covered the ground and hills and created a thin sheet of ice on the flocks’ water bowls. Whereas the sun’s rays ate the morning’s icing, the woods stayed insulated enough that there wasn't any frost in its thicket.
I lightly raked the trails of leaves and sticks, pushing it around to create small borders and mulch skirts for any maple tree I saw. The canine crew were all rewarded with treats for coming home after an hourlong walk.
Ophelia observed the morning’s events with mild wonder and felt it best to take a post-outing nap like any normal day.
